My thought on american chopper build off show

I am not a fan of the tuetuls creations, but when I happen to be at home and their show is on TV, I will watch it. because I would drool over their expensive equipments, and once in a blue moon, they do reach out for technology and equipment that I didn't know about.
And what interests me the most is that I can learn so many things not to do on bikes.
They never fail to stretch out their ideas way too far, way too extreme, every single times.
Their mentality, "Nobody done that before, so its amazing" doesn't apply to everything.
At least it doesn't cut it for me. I do get caught up, confused with so many ideas , not being sure if it's good or bad.right or wrong. I have to pull myself out. till I feel good about the ideas or something else come along.. my gut feeling,my instinct is always right. This is just my approach.
I am sure they are great individuals, normal person. I would shake their hands in respectful manner.
But its just that their
mentality towards motorcycles shows on their work, and I don't admire their work. it's just too much for me.

When I found out about this build off with Jesse James,I was intrigued
As far as custom motorcycles, What I do ,what I believe is similar to Jesse James.
His ideas and works interests me in positive way. I've met him few times, but we are not friends
or acquainted that we chat on phone or emails, so him being on
TV, building bikes is only opportunity for me to see what he is up to. Who would win didn't matter to me.
I can learn something positive from the way he approach making things ,or stylize motorcycles.
He had a opportunity ,and took advantage of it ,I believe he did what he had to, or wanted to , come this far to pursue his career .I would have done the same thing. Not the way he portrait himself,, or maybe that who really is,, I don't know him well. But I feel bad for him getting tabloid attention as side effect. I don't feel sympathy for all those problems he caused, reported on tabloids. All
I'm thinking is "don't you have something better to do? family ? business?" but it's not my business. I just want to see what he builds once in a while..

I thought the show presented good contrast of different approach of custom bikes.
All of the bikes reflected what they believe in. live show in
vegas part wasn't necessary however.
Paul Jr was voted the best of three by audience,, good for him.But I hope the show influenced some of american chopper audience the way they see custom bikes, less people would mention OCC as comparison to my work.. because It would make me feel uncomfortable very much.

  1. keep building those bikes Keino i personly like the striped down old school choppers and Jesse built a nice clean ride it to hell and back bike as for PJD it seemed to be a piece of art and not practical.

  2. Keino, you've nothing to worry about man, no one will confuse you or your machines with the PJD or OCC creations.

It is true there is something to be learned from everything we see, even if it is a warning of what not to pursue!

  3. Your very right in what you say. I think Paul Sr, should stick to his old school bikes, he knows what he does best, but wtf was he thinking in that bike build off? Jesse's bike was amazing, and Id ride that bitch over Paul Jr's anyday. All in all, they are all very talented and if they decide to have another build off, Id like to see more bikers and fabricators, have a show of at least 10-12 builders..as there are many more besides the PJD , OCC and Jesse James....too bad about Indian Larry, I loved his style RIP Larry

  4. KNO, you're continuing the tradition of Indian Larry, one of the most prolific builders of all time. You got NOTHING to worry about with OCC or PJD. They are not even playing the same game as you are. Jesse makes great bikes in a similar but different way from you. But, yours are my favorite, hands down. No, I don't mean out of the aforementioned, I mean out of ALL the customizers out there. Keep up the awesome work. Maybe some day I will be able to afford one of your magnificent creations.

  5. Well written. You'd win build-off every time.
    I like all your motorcycles.

  6. I'm with Noot on this one. Much respect to you for putting into words what little respect OCC and PJD are due. Mr. James isn't even in the same universe as those clowns.

  7. What Sr. built is not a bike, perhaps he got the wrong memo and thought it was a snowmobile build-off. Looking at Jr.'s work, it is always a lesson that just because you can do something does not mean you should, always so over the top. The only true motorcycle was Jesse's, 'cause a motorcycle is for riding.

  10. TV bike builders...I won't watch 'em. There ain't a mechanic among 'em since Indian Larry died. They could ruin a Henderson 4 cyl., win awards and be arrogantly proud of their butchering. It seems that these days, never have the ignorant been so annointed! El Gringo Loco

  11. Wow! This is a classic pot-calling-the-kettle rant. The OCC approach to bikes is a lot like your approach to engines. Your mentality with your motors is exactly like theirs with bikes. I mean really, why else would you do it? There's no real reason to mix and match engine parts, you just do it because you can. And don't worry, nobody will ever compare your work to the work of OCC. Your work is very unique and much more raw, a style all its own, a style you should give back to the dead guy you stole it from.
